Kunning Gambia works alongside children, young people, and families through education, skills-based training, wellbeing support, and trusted community action.
Kunning Gambia was founded to uplift and empower disadvantaged girls and young women across the country. The work is local, relational, and shaped by real needs on the ground.
Many girls and young women face interrupted education, family pressure, early responsibility, or a lack of practical opportunities. Kunning Gambia exists to help remove those barriers with support that feels human and immediate.
Families, communities, partners, and local leaders are part of the picture. Support is not only about one programme. It is about building confidence, stability, skills, and stronger everyday outcomes.
Helping girls return to school or access alternative learning opportunities.
Training in sewing, craftmaking, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and more.
Workshops on self-esteem, communication, leadership, and wellbeing.
Safe, creative spaces for play, social interaction, and community bonding.
Guidance and practical help for women starting micro-businesses.
Beneficiaries come from different backgrounds, but often share hardship, instability, or a lack of support. Some have left school because of family responsibilities or financial pressure. Others are young mothers looking for a stronger path forward.
“When you empower a girl, you empower a generation.”
Skills training, rainy-season resilience, and plans for the Kunning Gambia Fayre.
Jalika Jatta founded Kunning Gambia after relocating to Gunjur and seeing the need for stronger practical support around children, families, and vulnerable young people. Before moving to The Gambia, she spent many years in the UK as a social worker, supporting children and families through complex challenges.
Her vision is simple: stronger families, confident children, and a community where no one has to face their challenges alone.
Help fund school fees, materials, family support visits, and community programmes.
Sewing machines, educational materials, clothing, hygiene products, and other practical items are welcome.
Share skills, offer time, or collaborate to create stronger long-term community impact.
Kunning Gambia works with people and organisations who share its commitment to supporting women, girls, and families.

Led by Mr Courtney Sharpe, this campaign aims to raise £5,200 to purchase and deliver eight laptops for Kunning Gambia’s digital training programme.
8 laptops for digital learning
A group of young women is ready to begin digital training, but Kunning Gambia currently has limited equipment. The campaign will provide one laptop for each student to use during lessons, then keep the laptops at the centre as shared equipment for future groups. Every donation helps; sharing the fundraiser also makes a real difference.
Estimated costs include £4,799.76 for the laptops, £9.99 UK delivery, and £150 sea freight to The Gambia. Remaining funds will help cover transaction fees, secure packaging, and small price or shipping changes.
